Biography
For nearly 30 years, Jason Pooley has worked in production, supply chain and animal health with his roles with Smithfield Foods (20 years) and Pig Improvement Company (nearly 10 years). Throughout his career, he has supported domestic and international pig farmers with biosecurity, standard operating procedures and their implementation, training and health outbreak investigations. He has worked on farms in all phases of production, including at a boar stud farm and in semen distribution.
Jason’s industry involvement includes board officer and member experience with Texas Pork Producers Association. Nationally, he volunteers with the Secure Pork Supply (SPS) advisory group, a cross-section of industry leaders who validated and updated the SPS plan to consider producer participation and leverage existing programs. He is also a Pork Leadership Institute graduate (2014), where he learned about how the National Pork Board and National Pork Producers Council serve producers through their respective functions. Finally, as a Pork Quality Assurance® Plus and Transport Quality Assurance® advisor, he routinely teaches producers and transporters science-based practices for raising, handling and transporting animals.
Nominating Committee Comments
Jason Pooley has a solid 30-year resume with a passion for pig health and farm workers. He is a bilingual leader that would fit right into the work of the National Swine Health Strategy and the Nominating committee’s commitment to a diverse Board of Directors. He understands production as thoroughly as any candidate because of his background in health, welfare, production and the supply chain.
Jason fits the culture on the NPB Board regarding listening first to understand the why and then articulating the why to help guide everyone in making the best decision. He has an extroverted personality with a dominant DiSC assessment, so he is one to start a conversation with ideas on how to improve the lives of pigs and people.
